But seriously....

"Indeed you can usually tell when the concepts of democracy and citizenship are weakening. There is an increase in the role of charity and in the worship of volunteerism. These represent the élite citizen's imitation of noblesse oblige; that is, of pretending to be aristocrats or oligarchs, as opposed to being citizens."
John Ralston Saul ,CC , Ph.D (born June 19, 1947) is a Canadian essayist.

Now consider this. Does the quotation above reflects a pattern that a certain segment of our population are trying to manifest?

Like when Youth Leaders are sacrificing their day off leading a threatening mob to petition against the state of Isreal (Unless things have changes without my noticing , you still have to know something before you can be pissed with it , and really , how many of us can claim that where the Jews are concerned ) or when a Mat Rempit's future gets the concerned attention of certain quarters without him even having to ask for it,or when every man with a blog is doing something important like defending the sanctity of the constitution or protecting the integrity of Judiciary all out of their own not too sizeable pockets or when lawyers come forward to defend those very same bloggers (if it so happens than they are punished in the course of their "altruism") without asking nor expecting to get paid a a single cent for it , really,I wonder where is it that these selfless soul are taking us in this ride and what is it that they expect that you and I to do when we get there anyway ?
Get up,whistle and clap like seals ??
Bleed tears and declare between sobs another variant of that much abused phrase "hutang budi di bawa mati"?
Kneel and murmur "hail your excellency ,his most noble defender of righteousness and protector of the people's welfare" ??
Seriously ,what the heck is so wrong in asking to get paid if one intends to do good honest work .
Why the coyness in naming ones price??!!
